St. Mary’s Catholic School is celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month! Each class was assigned a notable Hispanic man or woman to study. First Grade learned about Dr. Sergio Torres Bayona. Dr. Torres is a neurosurgeon from Colombia. He became famous for winning the Young Neurosurgeon of the Year Award in September 2019. Dr. Torres won this award for his research on brain cancer. Dr. Torres accepts his award with humility. He says his award is the result of hard teamwork. His advice to students is to study hard and remained focused on your dreams. He does not consider himself especially smart, but he says he is able to accomplish his goals through hard work and persistence. We are inspired by Dr. Torres’s example. We enjoyed learning about him. Below are some pictures from our presentation on Monday, September 23, 2019.
